Great job Linda. Thanks for sharing.
I don't know about Asus laptops, but the HP and Dell laptops that I have owned all had downloadable manuals that gave explicit instructions on how to open the laptop and to change the memory and/or hard drive. By the way, this was an excellent job and demonstration.
You're Carey's sister aren't you? I remember you from a build that he did with you. Great Job on this video!
Nicely done, lil lady.
carey has taught you well good job
Well done Linda!
I probably would not have bothered going from 8GB to 16Gb ram, but hey it's your machine.
The SSD made all the difference to the times (Well they are about 5 times faster than a mechanical drive)
Ladies, if you think your lappie wants improving, follow Linda's tips.
Primarily, take your time and do the research before picking up the screwdriver
Regards, Tony
Good God ! I thought taking my HP laptop apart was awkward ! ( It was a cheap one as well ) That is a nightmare ! Still it was worth it .. well done
Awesome video on how poor laptop design creates unserviceable machines. Do not upgrade on your own. You will break stuff.
For IE – read EDGE. Good video.
I will add that the video was brilliant .
Awesome !
Thank you, Linda.
Hello Linda might I suggest a guitar pick, easy to open plastic parts of laptops. Those FFC cables are easy to replace, the data cables that you were talking about.
😃
Great vid.
allways a pleasure, Linda
pls keep on showing more vids………..
I rebuilt this model laptop last year. It wasn't worth it but it was an interesting experience.
They didn't use thread lock on the screws on yours? I had to take apart my niece's ASUS laptop once to do repairs and it had blue thread lock compound on the screws, one was so bad I had to carefully drill the head off and take out what was left with a small vise grip. One thing I will say about them is they do have good tech support, that is hard to find these days
The pocket knife made me nervous for the laptop.
Its not what you get when you buy cheap…….its when your buy Asus laptops period. Tablets are frustratingly worse. POS
Great Job Linda, on a concise video. I agree with other's suggestions. Only use plastic levers to pry apart plastic cases because metal usually leaves dents in the plastic. Also handle ribbon cables by their blue strain relief tabs at the ends of the cables, when plugging and unplugging them. Acronis recommends installing the new drive into the laptop before cloning. Think it has to do with the disk controller hardware and software drivers for the newer drive. Great empowerment video for women!
You did a great job Linda it must be in your blood.
One costumer of mine had the same issue with the same laptop. We decided to buy a Crucial BX500 2,5" SSD, a caddy for the 1 TB HDD and replace the ODD. After the clean-up, apply thermal compound and install the SSD and installed Windows 10 Pro X64 1903 (it was in late july) From almost a minute to only 3 seconds to boot. Thanks for sharing your experience!!!
cool! i just did my sisters pc with a new ssd and it's well worth it…:-D
Well Done Linda
Did the same thing on a q504ua from Asus Wich I purchased open box for 340 plus 120 in upgrades at Best buy and upgraded with ssd plus m.2 ssd and 16gb ram. I did alot of research at first to know if it was all possible, it's an amazing laptop now. Great video it helps alot for DIY people like me.
great job but you need blue plastic pry tools when you open the laptop is safety didn't need a knife sharp.
How do I manually update when the automatic update keeps failing?
Just think a thermal paste re application shoulda been preformed while already in that deep otherwise great 👍
To me this laptop is partially upgradeable, just not the CPU, although they did make it extra awkward the way it required tons of unplugging and unscrewing. I was imagining upgrading soldered RAM and SSD (eMMC). I would love to see that 🙂 Maybe next time.
Nice job
It would have been even better to run before and after bench mark test to compare
The more expensive laptops are the same very difficult to upgrade in some cases they cannot be upgraded at all
Great Video Ms Linda. The timing on this was perfect for me. My wife has a laptop of about that same vintage and we were kicking around the idea of spending the money to upgrade. Thanks to your work here, the answer is an obvious yes! Nice of the battery maker to send you two screwdrivers for a battery that does not attach with screws.
Easy peazy! You just boosted my confidence on my Lenovo upgrade!
Good Job Linda. This was an advanced upgrade. Well done 🙂
I can relate … swapped the HDD for a SSD in the same model , what a nightmare
Great job Linda! Uncle Carey has taught you well 😉
that's fast
This is my first time watching Linda… Wow Linda, it's great to see women with computer skills! I added it to my favorites, as my son has an older ASUS laptop that I would like to upgrade. I thought Laptops would be too hard, but you have helped my confidence. Thanks!
Nice work, useful video… I would suggest when you or others do this to also replace the round volatile memory batter to keep the clock an settings stable for the next life of the laptop after the upgrade (it was on the backside of the motherboard too)..
